William "Bill" Anixter

William “Bill” Anixter, MD

Psychiatrist

Dr. Anixter has strongly supported The CooperRiis model of care since its inception. “I remember visiting The Farm in Mill Spring when it was a dusty construction site. I loved the Cooper’s vision for what this place would become: an enlightened approach to mental health treatment and recovery, and a practice that was new to the southeast.”

While in private practice in Asheville, NC, Dr. Anixter served on the original CooperRiis Board of Directors and was a referring physician.

After retiring from private practice, Dr. Anixter was initially content working on his farm and playing bridge. “When the opportunity arose to work within the CooperRiis model as a clinician, bringing my experience and skills to an innovative recovery-oriented approach to care while working with many talented and dedicated clinicians provided a new and exciting challenge. I wanted to be able to participate and contribute. I have found that working as the Psychiatrist in The Asheville Community program has been a perfect fit.”

Dr. Anixter has his Bachelors’s Degree in Psychology from The University of California, Berkeley, and did his Medical Training at George Washington University in Washington, D.C. He interned at The U.C.L.A. Neuropsychiatric Institute, then did his Psychiatric Residency at George Washington University.

Board Certifications:
