At CooperRiis, we heal. We are a place where individuals are not defined by their psychiatric diagnosis but by their talents, personality, and potential When you donate to CooperRiis. You support our person-centered recovery model with the belief that mental health recovery is much more than just healing the mind. Diet, exercise, education on self-esteem, hope, and social and living skills all play a part. This model is the foundation we sought to create with CooperRiis.

As a private, nonprofit healing center, donations are essential to maintain an attractive, clean, and welcoming living environment, along with a working farm, woodshop, and art building. Your gift to CooperRiis will make a difference in an overwhelmed family’s life and give hope to residents tackling complex mental health challenges.

CooperRiis Healing Community is a 501(c)(3) organization, and your gift is tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law.

“The work you all are doing at CooperRiis is TRULY life-changing. I can hardly believe I have my son back and my family intact. After years of denial and many rock bottoms, our son finally asked for help. When he did, CooperRiis was there. My son was treated with respect and dignity. He is now working full time, managing meds, staying sober and healthy, and working toward independence. We are forever indebted to CooperRiis (Heaven on Earth).”

 Founder’s Legacy Statement

Our founders, Don Cooper and Lisbeth Riis Cooper created CooperRiis in 2003 in response to the challenges they faced in getting their loved one the proper mental health treatment they needed. They based their vision on the concept of the Therapeutic Community Model, believing that mental health recovery was more than just healing the mind. This legacy statement will guide future board members to not only make good and well-informed decisions if changes are necessary, but they hope it will guide them; in that, any divergence from their original vision should be done so cautiously. Some of the Cooper’s guiding principles are: offering the best mental health services with the best and most qualified staff possible, offering a “first class” facility where residents can feel welcomed and respected, having a focus on mental health as the primary diagnosis, and if there is a substance use disorder it must be secondary, always being a non-profit organization, and separation of management and board with the board providing strategic support and guidance to the president.
