Elizabeth “Liz” McIlwain, MSW, LCSWA

Integrative Therapist

I appreciate that CooperRiis takes a holistic approach to recovery, considering the individual as a whole person rather than solely focusing on their mental health status, and genuinely integrates this understanding into their work with residents. Building a relationship with residents where they feel comfortable allowing me to walk alongside them during their recovery journey is one of my top priorities.

Liz is dedicated to supporting individuals from a clinical and therapeutic perspective. She advocates for speaking up within the community through advocacy, social justice movements, and policies that ensure everyone’s voices are heard. Her goal is to make mental health care more accessible and to help shift the stigma surrounding mental well-being.

Liz spent several years in the healthcare field, providing administrative support and overseeing grant-funded community health projects, as well as implementing services at her local healthcare facility. After that, she took some time to work on a local produce farm before transitioning to graduate school in the fall of 2023.

During her first-year internship, Liz worked at a Senior Community Center, where she provided individual counseling and group support to seniors in Belmont, MA. During her one-year internship, she was placed at the Brookline Center for Community Mental Health, where she provided both individual and group therapy to clients of diverse ages and backgrounds. Her clients included individuals living with neurodivergence, personality disorders, OCD, grief, hoarding tendencies, and trauma.

Liz is a 2025 graduate of the Boston University School of Social Work, and is licensed in North Carolina as an LCSWA and studied at the University of Maine Augusta, BA Liberal Studies.
She has additional training in Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR), Meditation, Reiki, and Herbal Medicine.

Liz was born and raised in Maine and is a recent transplant to North Carolina. She enjoys being outside in nature and can usually be found reading a book and enjoying some coffee in the sunshine.
