Mission and Vision for
CooperRiis Residential Mental Health Treatment Center
Our healing mission is to enable individuals, whose lives are impeded by a mental health challenge or emotional distress, to develop their capabilities for creativity, wholeness, relationships and optimal health, so they may achieve their highest levels of fulfillment and functioning and respond productively to their future challenges and opportunities for growth.
We envision a future where the stigma against individuals with mental health conditions has disappeared, where every individual with mental illness will have the opportunity to recover, and where these individuals will be accepted into their communities as responsible and contributing citizens. We believe that recovery from serious mental illness is possible. We also believe that recovery comes in different forms. At CooperRiis Residential Treatment Center, we give our residents the right to define their mental health recovery –whether it’s to live independently, gain satisfying employment or achieve a higher level of meaningful social interaction.
Recovery by William Anthony, PhD
Recovery is eloquently stated by William Anthony, PhD, Professor Emeritus, Boston University, and a leader in the Recovery Movement. He writes: “Recovery is a deeply personal, unique process of changing one’s attitudes, values, feelings, goals, skills, and/or roles. It is a way of living a satisfying, hopeful, and contributing life even with limitations caused by mental illness.”
