Vision

We envision a future where the stigma against individuals with mental health conditions has disappeared, where all individuals with mental illness will have the opportunity to recover, and where these individuals will be accepted into their communities as responsible and contributing citizens. We believe that recovery from serious mental illness is possible. We also believe that recovery comes in different forms. At CooperRiis Residential Treatment Center, we give our residents the right to define their mental health recovery — whether it’s to live independently, gain satisfying employment or achieve a higher level of meaningful social interaction.

An Integrated System of Care

CooperRiis offers a safe and structured environment to support an individual’s mental health recovery and healing through a combination of clinical care, purposeful work, service to the community, and holistic health and wellness practices.

Purposeful Work

Our residents choose work that inspires them and matches their interests, including caring for the animals at The Farm, preparing meals, or growing flowers and vegetables in our garden or greenhouse.

A Personalized Approach to Care

Our evidence-based clinical care is grounded in supportive residential mental health programs with traditional psychotherapy and group therapies, along with optimized medication use and education to guide residents toward personal long-term care management. Committed to a personalized approach to care, we offer a strong clinical, residential treatment programs for adults 18+ after completing inpatient hospitalization care, referred from a clinician, a family member, or another program, and who have been diagnosed with these mental health conditions.

The Power of Vulnerability; Dismantling Stigma & Shame

by Laura Eshleman

Read about a former clinical staff member’s impressions of our program after years of experiencing a challenging mental healthcare system that let her down.

In this blog we learn that the World Health Organization outlines recommendations that are conducive to the recovery and well-being of people with mental health challenges, and that through Laura’s time at CooperRiis, she notes that we are and have been implementing these practices with intention: deinstitutionalization, holistic approaches, respect for individual legal rights and autonomy, and community inclusion, just to name a few.
