Sonny Huntsinger is an Integrative Therapist and LCMHCA who believes that life is a journey of self-discovery and finding one’s value in the world. He is passionate about helping CooperRiis residents discover these principles about themselves, regardless of their mental health diagnosis. Sonny strives to empower people to find the courage and resilience to face life’s challenges while managing their mental health complexities.
Sonny has an extensive background in lay counseling as a pastor and in outpatient family care.
Sonny’s educational journey is a testament to his commitment to his profession. He earned his undergraduate degree in Christian Ministry at Crown College in Minnesota and later pursued his Master’s in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at Liberty University in Virginia. His motivation was clear: ‘I did not go to college to become a counselor; I was a counselor and went to school to refine my skills.’
Outside of his counseling practice, Sonny’s life is enriched by his talents and hobbies. He has a knack for writing and playing music, which he finds therapeutic. His love for travel and immersing himself in different cultures and music broadens his perspective. As a family man, he cherishes outdoor activities like camping, hiking, and fishing, which he believes are integral to his counseling approach with residents.
