“At CooperRiis we are able to get to know the person and what they want for themselves. Then we have a better chance of helping them to understand and address their emotional health conditions.”

Jake, a Licensed Professional Counselor Supervisor and Clinical Director for the Asheville Community Program, came to CooperRiis in 2010 in order to work with people in a respectful and meaningful way: “looking at diagnosis as a tool that can help” and not as a way toencapsulate people. He has worked as a therapist since 2003 in all kinds of environments, including hospital settings, community mental health, partial hospitalization, Intensive Outpatient Programs, In-Home therapy, crisis centers, and private practice.

He has an undergraduate degree in Human Development and Family Studies, with a minor in Psychology, from Indiana University, and a Master’s in Counseling and Psychotherapy from University of West Georgia.

“I am an avid hiker and backpacker. I love living in Western North Carolina where there are so many outdoor adventures right outside one’s door.”
