At CooperRiis we take the health and safety of all residents, employees, and visitors very seriously. We are in constant contact with the local health departments and are checking in with the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and the World Health Organization (WHO) websites daily to make sure that we are up-to-date with information related to the COVID-19 virus, better known as the Coronavirus. Fortunately, there have been no cases reported in western North Carolina and Asheville to date.

Our Infection Control Protocol

Infection control protocol for new and current employees are followed carefully. Hand washing is a primary preventive measure. Additional hand sanitizer stations have been added to all locations. The symptoms and management of COVID-19 are similar to the Influenza that has been seen this winter. Staff use universal precautions (treating all medical interactions as though there are issues related to infection, gloves, etc.) at all times and are prepared to manage symptoms should they become present on our campuses.  In the event that someone presents with symptoms that medical staff believe require further screening, then that individual will be referred to the local emergency room for testing per local health department recommendations.

Monitoring Travel

We are monitoring who will be allowed to visit our campuses and asking residents and staff to limit trips to affected areas. Anyone from geographic areas identified as at risk will be restricted from visiting the program.

Healthy Lifestyle

Finally, CooperRiis offers a healthy diet, stress management and education related to personal and sleep hygiene; all practices designed to improve someone’s immunological strength. We are committed to maintaining the health and well being of all members of the community and have a multidisciplinary team of professionals meeting regularly to monitor the situation and take steps as necessary to protect the community.

Staying Informed

I am in constant communication with program leaders from around the country. The entire treatment community is taking preventive actions to be prepared in the event the spread becomes more widespread. I am confident that the steps we are taking are prudent and will serve us well. I will update you from time to time as appropriate.
