Twyla Wilson

Twyla Peterson Wilson, LMSW

Integrative Therapist

Prior to her CooperRiis therapist position, Ms. Wilson was a faculty member for over ten years at Duke University Medical Center in the Departments of Psychiatry and Social Work.  Before that, she had a private practice in Durham, NC where for 15 years she trained professionals internationally for Dr. Stephanie Covington, a pioneer in gender-responsive, trauma-informed addiction treatment.

I was drawn to the caring and recovery-oriented community of CooperRiis and find it comforting that you find no clear definition of staff vs. residents. The meaningful work on a beautiful farm is the antithesis of most models of Mental Health Care and that I find extremely important in healing.

Twyla has an MSW from UNC-Chapel Hill and a BS in Family Relations from the University of Minnesota. Twyla is also trained as a Somatic Experiencing practitioner through the SE Trauma Healing Institute.

When not at work, Twyla loves to hike, read, ski, swim, and kayak, play tennis, and pickleball with her husband David.  They are the parents of 3 grown daughters and she’s crazy in love with her two Yorkies, Chester and Wiley.
