Jennifer Pasternack, MD, PhD – Director of Psychiatry
“I am honored to be the Director of Psychiatry at CooperRiis, and I feel that all my personal and professional experiences have helped prepare me for this exciting, rewarding, and challenging teamwork.”
Jennifer Pasternack, or “Dr. P” as she is affectionately known at CooperRiis, practices a bio-psychosocial-spiritual approach to mental wellness, which involves recognition of how all aspects of a person’s life contribute to his or her recovery from any illness. She brings deep wisdom into the process of helping CooperRiis residents to optimize their medications to maximize recovery. Her methods are relationship oriented, collaborative and respectful of each persons experience and needs. Her dialogues are open, leading to creativity rather than providing formulaic responses to diagnoses. Prior to joining the CooperRiis team, Dr. P worked in a variety of settings including private practice, community mental health centers, group practice, partial hospitalization, inpatient units, and an ACT team (Assertive Community Treatment). Her preference has always been to work as part of a strong interdisciplinary team, and she has a special interest in working with survivors of psychological trauma. Jennifer Pasternack majored in English and history in college. She completed a Ph.D. in neuropathology as well as her medical degree at Case Western Reserve University, Ohio and received her specialty training in psychiatry at Western Psychiatric Institute and Clinic, part of the UPMC system in Pittsburgh, PA.
