Lauren was drawn to CooperRiis because of the community and recovery focus, and the ability to really get to know other human beings and their hopes and dreams. Lauren started at CooperRiis in 2014 as a Senior Recovery Coach and became a Recovery Coordinator (RC) a year later. Lauren held multiple leadership roles within the RC team in Asheville, and at the farm until moving into her current role of RC Director in the Asheville Community Program (ACP).

Lauren grew up in Northern Virginia and moved to North Carolina to get her Master’s in Clinical Mental Health Counseling with a concentration in Marriage and Family Therapy from Appalachian State University in Boone, NC. While finishing her degree at App. State, she worked for one year in the University’s Counseling and Psychological Services Center as a therapist extern and as the Diversity Outreach Graduate Assistant. After graduate school, she moved to Asheville to work as a therapist in the local schools, with her favorite work being in the high schools. Lauren is passionate about supporting individuals and their families in the process of “launching.” Her theoretical background developed to include Choice Theory, Positive Psychology, Transactional Analysis, and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy.

In her spare time, Lauren goes on various Asheville adventures with her husband, their two spunky and sweet daughters, and their Husky/Catahoula Leopard Hound mix.
