Kat Morua

“I enjoy the process of walking alongside community members on their recovery paths and witnessing them achieve the growth and confidence that allow for mental wellness and foster independence and believe that through education, empathy, and the right support, everyone can gain resilience and healing.”

Kat’s approach to her work as a Recovery Coordinator is individualized, compassionate, strengths-based, and empowerment-focused. She has worked at the CooperRiis Community Program since January of 2020.

Kat obtained her Master’s degree in 2018 at Ohio University in Athens, Ohio, where she worked as an advocate and therapist for survivors of sexual assault, domestic violence, and human trafficking. These experiences sparked her interest in the impact of trauma on a person’s life and her desire to deepen her clinical competency in this area. She is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker Associate and will soon be fully licensed as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and earn her Clinical Trauma Professional certification (CCTP).

Kat spends her spare time on the Blue Ridge Parkway’s hiking trails with her dog, rock climbing at the Smoky Mountain Adventure Center, and doodling/painting/making crafts with friends! Kat has also trained as a 250-hour yoga teacher at Asheville Community Yoga, which provided her with a more nuanced and comprehensive understanding of the mind-body interface and the importance of ‘Svadhyaya’: the yogic term for self-study and tuning-in to one’s intuition.
