“Working at CooperRiis has shown me a valuable way to facilitate people’s healing experience from a holistic and team-based approach. Healing doesn’t just happen with one person, one hour a week; it happens within an entire community.”

David has been practicing as a therapist in the Asheville area since 2010 and has been an Addictions Specialist for the past four years. He worked in both community mental health and private practice before coming to CooperRiis. David finds that working with both mental health and addictions challenges from a person-centered approach to be rewarding and most effective.

David received his B.S in Psychology from James Madison University. He completed his Master’s program in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at Appalachian State University with a concentration in Marriage and Family Therapy and a certificate in Addictions Counseling. David has had training in Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, and Radically Open Behavioral Therapy.

When David isn’t working, he often will be found at his home in East Asheville with his wife, Lauren, and daughters, Sienna and Juna. And when time permits, he finds hiking and archery enjoyable as well.
