Our Mission and Vision
Our healing mission is to enable individuals, whose lives are impeded by a mental health challenge or emotional distress, to develop their capabilities for creativity, wholeness, relationships and optimal health, so they may achieve their highest levels of fulfillment and functioning and respond productively to their future challenges and opportunities for growth.
We envision a future where the stigma against individuals with mental health conditions has disappeared, where every individual with mental health conditions will have the opportunity to recover, and where these individuals will be accepted into their communities as responsible and contributing citizens. We believe that recovery from serious mental health conditions is attainable. We also believe that recovery comes in different forms. At CooperRiis, we give our residents the right to define their recovery –whether it’s to live independently, gain satisfying employment or achieve a higher level of meaningful social interaction.
One of our favorite quotes on this subject is by William Anthony, a leader in the Recovery Movement. He writes, “Recovery is a deeply personal, unique process of changing one’s attitudes, values, feelings, goals, skills, and/or roles. It is a way of living a satisfying, hopeful, and contributing life even with limitations caused by mental illness.”
Recovery involves the development of new meaning and purpose in one’s life as one grows beyond the catastrophic effects of mental illness.
