Joanne Frayne, RN, BSN
Wellness Director

As director of our Wellness Task Force, Joanne helps residents formulate their individual wellness plans with Mary Kreider, our Executive Chef & Nutrition Counselor and Warren Dixon, Wellness Coordinator and Massage Therapist.

Together they teach residents about nutrition, grocery shopping, and healthy cooking skills, skills they will take along as part of the “graduation” process.  They are also in charge of Fulfillment Week and our smoking cessation support group.

Joanne is our supervising RN and responsible for the overall well-being of our residents.  She expertly manages our systems of medication administration, monitors weights and other physical attributes, while constantly looking for ways to improve residents’ health.  She is keenly aware of the dangers of diabetes and cardio-vascular illness that can sometime accompany mental illness and is alert to relevant risk factors.  Joanne is a leading voice on our wellness team and is focused on smoking cessation for those who are willing to take on this challenge.

Joanne is like sunshine and a cup of fresh Florida Orange Juice for our residents receiving their morning medications... and encourages each to take on responsibility for medication self-administration when they are able.  She also educates residents about their medications and how to offset potential side affects.

She is originally from Pietermaritzburg, South Africa and has a most delightful and charming accent.  She received her BSN in nursing science and midwifery from Natal College of Nursing, South Africa.

North Carolina Board of Nursing, South Carolina Board of Nursing, and South African Nursing Council also certify her.

Joanne lives in Saluda, NC and has two lovely daughters who can often be seen playing with the animals when they are not in school.
