< Previous Ed Sargent Ed’s interest in working with people and improving his own personal wellness brought him to CooperRiis to be a Lodge Advisor and live in community. He has now “graduated” to be a House Advisor for up to six residents who have moved from the farm to the Lynncourt House in Tryon. With his co-house advisor, he lives in a separate apartment in the house and together they give support and guidance to the graduates as they begin to cope with work or school in the community. After a sometime strenuous day, he helps to set the tone in the home, where he and the graduates cook meals and enjoy evening recreation together. Most importantly he provides a kind and listening ear for the graduate as he or she processes their daily challenges and gets to know each resident very well. He encourages growing mutuality amongst residents and helps each to sustain their sense of community with CooperRiis even as they make further advances in their recovery in the ‘outside’ often more challenging community of Tryon and environs. Ed relocated to North Carolina from the Gulf Coast in the wake of Hurricane Katrina last year. He earned his degree in Sociology from Old Dominion University, Virginia and has worked in public education, law enforcement and behavioral counseling. He has two children. |
